KNEE & HIP REPLACEMENT • DELHI

Deciding about a worn knee or hip is the first hard step.

It may be yours, your mother's, or your father's. We make that decision easier - what can be done, what recovery looks like week by week, and whether surgery is needed at all. In plain words, at your pace.

WHEN SURGERY CAN WAIT

Surgery is not always the answer.

"Most people arrive braced to be told they need surgery right away. Usually, they don't."

"Most people arrive braced to be told they need surgery right away. Usually, they don't."

Dr Ramneek Mahajan

Before suggesting a replacement, he weighs how much the pain limits your day, what you can no longer do, and whether physiotherapy, medicines and the other non-surgical options have had a real go first.

If surgery is the right step, he says so. If it isn't yet, he tells you that too.

Which operations can you avoid, and when?

What is the step by step journey? What does the process look like?

THE ROAD AHEAD

The whole path, from prep to back on your feet.

Five stages, from getting ready for surgery to everyday life again. Every recovery is different - this is the shape of the path, not a fixed timetable.

  1. Preparing for surgery

What to sort out before the date.

  2. The day of surgery and hospital stay

The day itself, and your time in hospital.

  3. Recovery, week by week

What the weeks after look like.

  4. Physiotherapy and getting moving

Building your strength and movement back.

  5. Life after

    Settling back into daily life.

LONG AFTER SURGERY

The care doesn't stop when you go home.

Physiotherapy from your first days, at home or in clinic. A team you can reach on WhatsApp. And a follow-up that keeps checking in, long after you're home.

How to decide if I should go for robotic surgery?

IF YOU'RE WEIGHING ROBOTIC

What robotic surgery is, and when it helps.

Robotic surgery gets a lot of attention, and it's fair to ask whether it's worth it. It isn't magic, and it isn't needed for every knee or hip. Where it earns its place, it maps the operation to your own joint beforehand - the alignment, the fit, the balance - so Dr Mahajan operates to a plan built for you.

Robotic is a tool, not a promise. He uses it where it helps, and says so when it doesn't - the judgment matters more than the machine.

Individual patient experiences, shown as written. Recovery and results vary from person to person.

That's getting the first one right. But what if a replacement has already failed?

IF A REPLACEMENT HAS FAILED

When a first replacement has failed.

A revision is not where anyone hoped to be. But a replacement that has failed - loosening, infection, a joint that never came right - is a specific problem, not a dead end.

Revision is its own kind of surgery. It starts with finding out exactly what went wrong, then a plan built around that.

How do I get started?

FIND YOUR STARTING POINT

Start where it's troubling you.

Cartilage worn and cracked
THE KNEE

A worn or arthritic knee

Grinding pain, stiff mornings. The cushion between the bones has worn away.

A worn ball-and-socket
THE HIP

A worn or arthritic hip

Groin or thigh pain, a limp, trouble with socks and shoes. The ball-and-socket has worn.

Where the blood supply fails
THE HIP • AVN

A hip losing its blood supply

Often in younger patients. The bone dies when its blood supply is cut off - a different path from a worn-out joint.
